Above The Golden State Launches Kickstarter To Fund New Worship Album

On Friday, former Sparrow Records act Above The Golden State launched a new Kickstarter campaign to fund a forthcoming worship project, asking for just $10,000 in 60 days. Check out the details below and visit their Kickstarter campaign page to chip in!

10k in 60 days! Join Above The Golden State to complete the NEW Worship Album.

Creator and creativity
Creating music that will glorify Jesus- the Creator of music… giving a voice for this generation to worship Him!

If you’ve followed Above The Golden State’s music you know my priorities: love Jesus, love others, serve the church and make creative music that reflects The Creator. I’m so thankful to have had this opportunity in life. Thankful for people like you!

Worship and voice Worship album? I’ve never made an album like this. The melodies, the lyrics, the sounds, the arrangements… it’s more powerful, more creative, more relevant, and more revealing of the God who is LOVE! I believe these songs will spark a new voice for the church to glorify Jesus. I started this album about a year ago… it’s so close to being finished. Please join me by helping get these songs to the church and the world… and YOU!

“My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is steadfast and confident! I will sing and make melody. Awake, my glory, my inner self; awake, harp and lyre! I will awake right early, I will awaken the dawn! I will praise and give thanks to You…” Psalm 57:7-8

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
To complete this project I’ve taken a few risks as mentioned in the video.

The amount of time, energy, prayer and thought put into these songs (even before going to record them) has already grown beyond measure. I’ve poured all of myself, heart, soul and mind into these melodies and lyrics. Being as sincere and Spirit-led as I know possible, in order to faithfully serve the Church with the gifts God has given me. My example and inspiration being from God Himself, who has given His all to show us love.

Additionally, I’m no longer working with the record label, which has its ups a downs- the success of this album will rely solely on the creativity and message of the songs, not on radio play, sales, marketing, number of daily Tweets or the overall “sex appeal” of selling an artist. If God wants to use this music for His glory… it could very well involve YOU!

The challenge moving forward will be finding ways to get these songs to those who need to hear them. This may involve some level of promotion combined with the skills and resources of others who believe in the project, for example- Steve Wilson who produced this album for the lowest cost manageable and gave countless hours of free time to insure that it sounds amazing! Tyler Gould- who helped make the video for free on a cloudy afternoon. My buddy Dave who helped lift the pipe organ our of my car. I’m excited to see this list of examples continue to grow…

The Documentary Narrated by Rebecca St. James Captures the Lives of 25 Abandoned and Orphaned Children Living on the Streets in India

Word Films is set to release “Mother India: Life Through the Eyes of the Orphan” on DVD April 23. Winner of “Best Short Documentary” at the 2012 San Diego Christian Film Festival, the film is a compelling documentary that chronicles the adventure of 25 courageous orphans living as a family along the railway in Tenali, India. “Mother India” brings to light the struggles faced daily by over 31 million orphans in India and the challenge of rescuing them from a life of begging and addiction.”Mother India,” filmed during a two-week period in early 2012 with a small production team, is the work of first-time filmmakers David Trotter and Shawn Scheinoha. “India is growing in both population and industry, but few people know that there are over 31 million orphans in this nation,” commented Trotter (Executive Producer, Director). “Each of these young lives is much more than a statistic. Every one of them has a name, a face and a story.” “The bottom line is that statistics go in one ear and out the other,” added Scheinoha (Executive Producer). “People need to hear stories and see the reality of what it looks like for millions of Indian children who are orphaned. We’re not out to just tell a tragic story. We’re focused on raising awareness and changing lives.”

While the production team was shooting the documentary, a spontaneous effort was made to help the two youngest children transition into an orphanage and school operated by the humanitarian organization, Harvest India. Although this was not within the scope of the original documentary, these two young lives soon became a central storyline within the film.

“From childhood, I have had a heart to do what I can do to help people in need, especially kids, and most definitely orphans,” said Rebecca St. James. “My hope is that thousands will see this film and join this community of world changers by taking action.”

Hot Off GRAMMY Nomination, “Speechless” Singer Anita Wilson, Enjoys Another Smash, “Jesus Will”

Artist Set For Appearances At The Allstate Gospel Superfest, Bishop Paul S. Morton’s Church & South By Southwest The Following Week
It’s hard to believe it’s barely been a year since EMI Gospel recording artist Anita Wilson hit the Gospel scene – as a solo artist, that is.  Many know that Wilson honed her chops as a background singer for Donald Lawrence as part of The Company.  The singer came into her own with the debut release of Worship Soul.  The highly-acclaimed record catapulted the songstress into mainstream Gospel music with the CD’s first single, “Speechless”.  Now, the GRAMMY and three-time Stellar Award nominee is enjoying the success of her latest single, “Jesus Will”.  Already hitting the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Singles Chart, “Jesus Will”, is following in the footsteps of its predecessor, “Speechless”.
Penned by Gospel music icon, Rev. James Cleveland, the track is an unyielding declaration of the awesome abilities of God.  Anita has given the classic a new twist, even introducing the song to a new generation.  Written by one of Gospel music’s most prolific and awarded songwriters in the industry, the song was originally recorded in 1958.  Anita took elements of this moving masterpiece and made it into a vibrant, soul stirring and Holy Ghost filled single.
Promoting the new song, Wilson will be traveling to Atlanta this weekend to perform during the taping of the Allstate Gospel Superfest.  This year’s Gospel Superfest will be hosted by Wendy Raquel Robinson and features the best and brightest in Gospel music including Byron Cage, Earnest Pugh, Ricky Dillard and William Murphy.  The taping will take place at the Georgia International Convention Center (2000 Convention Center Concourse, Atlanta GA 30337).  The event begins at 6PM EST.
In addition to the taping, Wilson will be ministering at Bishop Paul S. Morton’s Changing A Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church this Sunday, March 10th.  She will be singing at the church’s West Location (3350 Greenbriar Pkwy, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30331) during the 10AM service and at the East Location (2600 H.F. Shepherd Dr., Decatur, GA 30034) for the noon service.  The following Friday, March 15, 2013, Anita will be participating in the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX, one of the largest annual music festivals.
Growing up in East St. Louis, the songstress began singing at the age of five.  A “PK”, preacher’s kid, Anita practically grew up between the pews of her father’s church.  As she developed her singing style, she merged gospel with jazz and R&B influences from artists such as Sarah Vaughn, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.  Taking the passion of worship and mixing it with a heart of soul, Anita Wilson has created a style all her own.  Connect with Anita Wilson on Twitter (@MsAnitaWilson) and Facebook.

All Sons & Daughters Live

It hasn’t even been two years since All Sons & Daughters debuted their unique take on modern worship music with their first EP, Brokenness Aside. Having a more southern and folk base to their music, All Sons & Daughters largely create worship music for those who don’t really like the stereotypical sound of most of today’s worship music. Even in the vocal department, where most listeners are content with a standard vanilla flavoring, the pairing of vocalists David Leonard and Leslie Jordan create a velvety rich sorbet in comparison, bringing a satisfaction to the palette that few artists seem to offer. And while many worship leaders aim to tickle the emotions of their audiences with tired and often unimaginative rhythms and lyrics, AS&D focus a lot on themes of brokenness, our sinfulness and His faithfulness to restore. And it’s in this restoration and reveling in His grace that joy comes bubbling up. Live is the band’s first venture into live recordings and it is a grand one. The recording itself is rich and crisp, with Jordan and Leonard’s impressive vocals taking center stage and the audience serving as a backup choir at just the right moments. In fact, it’s easy to keep forgetting this is a live recording while listening to it, until some rare audience applause follows a song or the vocalists insert an adlib. By the time the generous 13-track album wraps, it’s a truly refreshing listen that is a gift that keeps on giving. I don’t take it lightly that I feel I can truly say that this is the best live worship album I’ve heard in many years…
